Historical Summary: In 1918 a group of settlers in Inguadona Township decided to form a congregation which would gather for regular Sunday morning worship. In 1920 under the guidance of a young pastor, Marcus Tufteland, this goal was reached. The congregation was named Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church. By May 1922, a church was erected and dedicated on a site adjacent to the Inguadona Cemetery. Local residents donated nearly all of the material and labor for the project. The present church bell is the original from this church. In the 1940's, it was decided the area could be better served by having a church in Longville. In 1947 the church in Longville was completed. It was remodeled in 1977. In March 1986, the construction of a new parsonage was completed on the site next to the church. In 1997, construction of the present church building in its new location began with the first worship service held on Christmas Eve. A service of dedication was held on Sunday, May 17th, 1998. The continuing faithfulness of Salem's worshiping community and its evangelical outreach is an ongoing tribute to the many dedicated members and friends in Salem's history, responding to Christ's call.
