Greetings from Salem!
you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God (Ephesians 2:19)
Its exciting to receive an invitation, especially from someone important to us. There is no invitation more lovingly extended than that which comes through Jesus Christ. In Jesus, God has sent us Word that we are invited to belong to His family, the Christian Church. The Church is the Body of Christ in the world. We are called, not to isolation, but to community. An isolated Christian is a paralyzed Christian. A coal out of the fire cools, fades and dies, but in the fire a graying coal comes to life and glows again. Together in God’s family the energy of faith is rekindled.
Baptism marks our adoption into God’s family in which He invites Himself into our lives to accomplish for us what we cannot do ourselves. As relatives in the Christian faith, we partake in a family meal the Lord’s Supper which is our nourishment for faith and life. We read and search our family book, the Bible, discovering the family stories which unite us in faith. We call upon the same Father in prayer. The Lord’s Prayer is our family prayer. In all our family gatherings we are not strangers to each other because we have been brought near in the blood of Christ (Eph. 2:13) and we bear His name.
It is a high privilege to belong to a family. Salem Lutheran Church is a local expression of the larger universal family of God’s people across the globe.
On behalf of the members of Salem, I invite you to visit us when you are in the area. I hope that your experience with us around the Gospel will affirm and strengthen your faith.
If we at Salem can be of any assistance to you, please let us know (salem@arvig.net).
In the spirit of our Lord’s love,
John A. Monson
